Incest is DIRECT blood relation: Father/Mother, Brother/Sister, Aunt/Uncle. An aunt or uncle is your father or mother’s sister or brother. They are less directly related to you as your parent would have likely married outside their own blood; but still strongly enough linked to your bloodline to be dicey. Legally speaking in most countries and in many of the United States it IS legal to marry even your first cousin (your aunt or uncle’s child) Because there is a stop gate in the genetics with the aunt/uncle having married and or just conceived a child with SOMEONE ELSE’S bloodline, as well as you presumably being conceived outside of just one bloodline. Which makes it harder for the repetition in genetic sequences (the nobles of the medieval times were actually correct about keeping it in the family “strengthening” the bloodline – but in a bad way; too many similar genes leads to mutations and that leads to problems) which is the reason that incest is considered “taboo” (I would debate that point considering every second game on this site either has it, has inference to it, or has a patch to make it viable for most games) and illegal in this day and age.

Frankly while there is scientific principle that denotes we are as humans attracted more to those that look like we do; if we were raised with X person, we’re also much LESS likely to find them sexually attractive to start with. Hence if you were seperated at birth, or given up for adoption what have you – and later returned; it’s potentially more likely that incest of the vein in the fantasy settings so many of these games create, could happen. It’s the basis for the myth of Oedipus, for example. Yes, I’m a geek, I know.
