Dream Girlfriend: Doomer Girl [Final] [Banana Slime]
Editor's Rating
Story - The writing in Dream Girlfriend: Doomer Girl is cringe-inducing and flat, giving the impression of a man who never truly interacted with women. It feels more like the author's shallow and unrealistic fantasy rather than an authentic exploration of relationships. The characters come across as uninteresting and uninspired, lacking the depth and complexity that would make them relatable or engaging. Even the sex scenes, a common highlight in this genre, feel mediocre at best. - 45%
Visual - Dream Girlfriend: Doomer Girl showcases decent visual design, which offsets some of its narrative shortcomings. The character designs are cute and visually appealing, capturing the essence of the girls in a charming way. The art style is clean and well-executed, making the characters pleasant to look at. However, the lack of variation and depth in animations and backgrounds leaves something to be desired. Overall, the visuals bring a certain charm to the game, but they don't fully compensate for other issues. - 70%
Engagement - Dream Girlfriend: Doomer Girl offers a short and straightforward gaming experience. The choices made throughout the game determine the path the story takes, leading to a potential relationship. While the game's brevity can be forgiving, clocking in at around 30 minutes, the majority of that time is spent reading text and the protagonist's inner thoughts. - 60%
Core Loop - The core loop of Dream Girlfriend: Doomer Girl revolves around making choices and navigating dialogues to progress the story. While this may offer some enjoyment to fans of visual novel experiences, the lack of depth in the branching paths and the limited number of decisions available diminishes the overall impact. The simplicity of the core loop, combined with the one-and-done sex scene, doesn't provide sufficient variety or replay value for players seeking a more involved experience. - 55%

A short depressing game about a depressed guy doing his best to get lung cancer, while jerking off to anime. There’s only one sex scene and that’s it. I understand depression, as I struggled with severe depression for years myself, but this game wasn’t for me. The graphics are very appealing, though.
A couple of minutes of playing. No paths, nothing. Extremely sad. Stunning graphics, the girl is one of the hottest. What can I say? I hope the author will do something more in the future, he/she is extremely promising. I can’t give a votation to this work as it seems to me more a sort of presentation than a proper visual novel.

“The writing in Dream Girlfriend: Doomer Girl is cringe-inducing and flat”
Which is it, @DikGames? Is it cringe-inducing or flat? I suppose I need to “waste my time” downloading to find out.
It’s only cringe-inducing if you find goth culture cringe. I find fascism like #nohomo’s to be cringe, so I can understand the issue the reviewer might have with it, but they should be more neutral so it’s more informative.
WARNING: MC is very, very introverted. What the angry snowflakes would call a “simp”. It’s very much a game where sad loser boy gets better over time.
As far as “flat”, the story is very by the numbers and leans into depression as the ground state. I personally think it would’ve been served better if the in-game’s VN had sex scenes in it to contrast to the MC’s personal life. (Or as No would put it: “Put in more sex scenes nobody wants to read this shit without a promise of boobs and tits!”) Probably would’ve jazzed the game up a bit better, but this is 20/20 hindsight.
It is, in essence, a game about getting out and getting a life. It’s a sad little game about hope.
Not going to continue this, but kudos on the author for making a game they want to see. If anyone wants to revel in that maudlin feeling, maybe not a bad choice, just don’t expect much.
