final version of combat tips for v0.23

If you sick of waiting for noel to pick spell in slow-mo each time, you can lower duration in settings(i set it 1/2, good for combat, good to actually have time to pick). If you accidentally charged wrong spell, you can remove it by holding magic+attack buttons for 1s. That’s precisely why your shotgun disappear if you use attack to set spell as shotgun-holding attack instead of tapping it, use shield for applying shotgun instead(you would deal with accidental dodging from now on tho). You can dodge in mid air, but you pick time for it-you don’t need to use it at top of arc, moreover you can prolong your time in the air by simply starting to cast spell and when attack gonna hit you, dodge. Some platforming puzzles require you to slow your fall by spell. If you find “feather fall” enhancer, you can use “fireball”(aka nuke) to stay mid air while leading it to target, best way to deal with “puppies”. Some enemies shoot projectiles, which you can block or deflect by hitting it(tricky). Or simply find “parry” and press shield+attack button, voi la, projectiles are pushovers from now on. Try to get “salad” recipe and cook it with carrots. It’s fundamental Quality Of Life change-with it you can pass through enemies without falling. Makes crowded fights so much easier. If you have a few enhancer slots and things itself, don’t forget to apply them for terrain individually. Some fights would benefit from grappling shoes, some from feather fall, some from long staff and platforming in general from double dodge. Default shield is garbage-it works only 6s, after it ‘red’ fragile mode and recovery of shield is 1s for 1s of work, so if you used shield completely, you need to wait all time you used up. Add that if your shield is broken, you stunned for long time. Garbage. But I can’t say so about lettuce buffed one. With max salad first meal, you gain whopping 26 seconds of shield duration/durability. And recovery rate slightly faster(1s to 1.5-3s, seems longer you wait-more you gain). That’s game changing. The only attack which can 1 shot you is mega slime’s bite, others can’t grab or stun you. Try it.

All combat in the game can be divided onto few categories: positioning, reflexes+timing+thought, struggle. If you can find position in which you can stay and shoot down enemies till there none left, good. If you can’t, you learn patterns and jump away/dodge in best time. But sometimes you can’t do either(usually when there too many foes on bad terrain, thunderstorm summoned 2 contaminated ones, F) and you need to struggle, which is intended, cause creed of the game is “pitiful is cute“.

“Ways of combat”: 1) You spam basic arrow-high cast speed, high knockback, good damage, your first pick in every situation. If it’s you, you spammer. 2) You learned that you can inflict stun on enemies and now you try to knock out everyone you meet-you entrap mana plants with bombs, so when they try to eat it, they blow up; you try various angles of launch to rain down bombs from high places; you place bombs just so you can golf it to enemies and when it’s last one standing, you just beat the poor thing with a stick. If you like foes to suffer cruel and painful death, you’re madman demolition expert. 3) You’re aim a BIG spell, instead of spamming weak one. You launch guided tactical nuke and predict what they gonna do, so nuke already there. You like to blast it in your face in close combat, so “grippling shoes” always on, and your periphery vision so good, that you can track all what’s going on and dodge away even while guiding nukes. True Fireball enjoyer. 4) You just like melee more, so you goes full close combat-collects every moving pattern and actually using it, fool around bosses(hey, buffon, too heavy to catch me, ya?) and pin point smack faces of first priority targets out of mid air and/or crowd with your old trusty stuff. And yeah, dodges are impeccable at this point(high risk-high reward, duh). Face Smacker. 5) You don’t lean for any, you just mix everything what you can and hope it’d works(usually does tho). You just want to beat the game.(You came to came, ffs, not to suffer some weird platforming, puzzles and tough battles) Casual Ordinary player.

Usually all difficulty comes from line up. You just need to figure which one should die first and soon they all gonna crumble as card house. There various ways to secure victory-to prevent enemy from doing what he’s infamous for, to not let them eat mana plants and run out dry, to barrage with spells and let knockback and different movement speed of foes to let you butcher all of them one after another, hell, if you good, you can even let them kill each other or dump into thorn pit. There many ways to secure your position and victory.

But some maps won’t let you take it easy-ceiling won’t let you jump high, walls are maggots or even floor is lava and platforms are moving… If situation this bad?.. then open your eyes, turn brains on and learn-the movement, the attacks, the timing. Can you block urchin with parry? How many jumps slimes do in quick successions? Can this dude attack straight up? Can I prevent cast of thunderbolt with smack of my stuff?

No, 2, no, yes

Start asking questions like this and actually learn the combat. When you finally “feel” the game and butcher encounter which butchered you previously so many times, it’s like puzzle you finally solved(funny, here actually frustrating puzzles too).

And if even that won’t helps? There no way to secure position, no help in reflexes, all spells useless… Then try thinking even harder. And have preparations. Use healing items, foods, maybe you missed enchanter which would ease all immensely: struggle, sometimes mentally, sometimes literally-victory in tatters is still victory, especially against overwhelming odds. But to ease your struggles, I have cooking tips for you.

Slimes usually crawl to you slowly and then jump towards you from some distance to grab. Cause of that, they can be nasty in crowd as to preventing you from just jumping over foes to other side-they kick you out of the air and disaster of QTE happens. So before you jump, try hitting them with arrow to knock back or parry/smack with staff when they pounce(smack is tricky timed) or block pounce with shield, there would be some time when they can’t start new attack after hit. Or just be prepared to dodge in mid air when slime is near. Block is possible. If terrain let you-try charged with spell cyclone slash, hits multiple slimes.
Contaminated Slime have same movement pattern as slimes-it crawl till it’s in reach and “bites” you. Essentially it’s same as simple slime’s jump, but more dangerous. The thing is-you can bait it for bite and just jump over it to other side. Sometimes it goes into rage mode and start jumping up-down furiously, but unless you let it corner you, just waiting till he’s done fuming is viable strategy-you can even blast it with spells/prepare shotgun while he’s busy. And he have very VERY big weakness–melee. If you won’t bait it to bite but instead smack it with charged staff, you’d be pushed back from impact and it’s just out of reach for slime to bit you. That makes them total pushovers, you can even hit it twice per bite-at the start of animation and at the end, when he’s done and right before you. Don’t try to block bite, he would break shield and if you cornered while jumping attack gonna hit-don’t try full block either, default block won’t hold, just block initial hit and dodge towards when he’s in the air. Buffed shield holds.
Mushrooms are stationary, you can easily shoot it from distance or smack it up close-it won’t fight back too much(2 strikes for 4 damage each? meh). The devil is in the details-in crowd they can sneakily sleep you while you don’t pay attention or redirect homing of spell to themselves, potentially ruining your attempt to prevent, for example, the fool, from charging thunderbolt, but excluding both of it, they harmless. You can even deflect spores with parry and keep area smokeless. Block is possible.
Contaminated Mushroom is 50/50. It’s kinda pushover but at the same time not. If you fight it alone, it’s ez pz-when he start jumping, tossing red clouds(first stage of poison is reverse, second sleep), just run to him, NOT AWAY from(or he’s gonna jump after you and sometimes land onto with QTE), he’s usually jump over head harmlessly and you safe outside, melee or range till he’s dead. But if it’s crowdy in thunderstorm and he spawned, oh boy, you gonna suffer from clouds a lot, i advise you just persevere or have smoke damage+ food always on(Green pepper). Block possible but only when he’s away. If he’s near, you easy immovable target locked into smoke. Unless buffed shield.
Porifera is not hard but annoying enemy. They just stand and don’t do anything, but if you get close, they gonna summon whole mincing column with reversing directions debuf. Also stun locks you. And they tanky, so you can’t just delete them with 1 spell. If you somehow got locked between 2 poriferas, F. Try using bombs and hitting with plain staff attack-that inflicts stun in them and gives temporary frames of no response so you can keep hitting it till it’s stunned. Also you can just bait if for attack and bail. Sometimes it shoot “charge” of it’s head(?) to nearby enemies to heal them, when it’s out of charges-it’s harmless. Can replenish itself with mana, so don’t let it be onto mana plant spawn. Default block gonna break from column, buffed not.
The Fools are the enemy you want to keep in check constantly. If it charges thunderbolt successfully, you’d get hit for 50~250 damage and get 2-3 sparks afterwards, which cancels animation(micro stun). But sometimes all what’s needed is just being close to them, so they teleport away or attack them in any kind-this halts charge of their spell. But if you good, you can use them as additional means of damage-bolt hits everyone, so if you avoided it completely but let it hit everyone else, you did all right. Closer you to center of bolt forming, slower it moves in comparison to you, so getting closer-viable tactic. You can survive 1 bolt with default block(many with buffed one). And you can body tank forming ball(damages for 30, less) to prevent genesis. If you get close to genesis and then parry/attack it, you can redirect it completely. It’s risky move-if you was too far, you won’t be able to get away from it or block, if you was too close-you body tank it. Fools drop down if they hit once-you can stunlock them in that state by hitting repeatedly. Since plain staff attacks consume foe’s mana, it’s best way to get temporary lull in battle.
Puppets actually hidden menace-if you let them do what they want, they’d go full tony stark on you, don’t let them, kick the children asses. But other than their craft, all they can do is just tossing rocks(4 damage, and they miss over head often, bruh) and passing through you, falling Noel on her butt(solved with carrot dish). They can die from their own inventions too. Those are rocket/missile launcher, heat, lightning, cold beams(3), magic weakening barrier/field and wooden horse. Block possible but default crumble from machines(buffed not). Charged melee ‘white arrow’ is enough to kill small ones(tall too if you ate meat) in 1 strike.
Contaminated Puppet is heavy hitter. Like every brute-if he can’t hit you, he’s pushover. Just learn to jump over him and dodge in time, he can even be boon-his attacks damages everyone in path, so he can bulldose through battle in your name. His attacks are 2 bat swings, shockwave and grip on your leg. Everything is easily avoidable by jumping over his head. Don’t try to block, he can smash even max buffed one in 6 strikes. Also if you shoot arrow in time of bat swing, he reflect projectile(harmless).
Urchins are menace in plain sight. If you touch them-you get damaged, if you away, they launch homing spikes, if they in distance but not far, they drill(same as porifera but FAST) and lastly, they move erratically so even if you fight multiple enemies, random urchin would always casually fly in your way and ruin everything. If there 2 or more urchins and you busy, F. You can deflect or shield from homing spikes, that makes it easiest attack of urchins. I don’t recall if you can dodge towards them to pass through in mid air, but probably not and that’s frustrating(but fair, they’re spiky). And you can halt drill if you move too fast for it to lock onto you. Easiest way is to jump towards drill and fall down-since closer you to center, more angle it needs to turn to follow you. Also if you have lull in battle, you can wait till drill is coming and jump over it(puppy tactic). Once they dash, they can’t turn fast. When urchin(not in drill state) is close-try to hit it before it touches you or parry to create some personal space(parry don’t work on drill attack btw). Shield not works in dire need, but works. Buffed one work every time.
Contaminated Urchin unlike it’s small brethren is total pushover. All it does is rolling about in circles and sometimes fall onto your head(avoidable)+long spikes attack, which limited in upper semicircle(if you under it, it can’t damage you). Just jump over it and bombard with spells from distance(or hit it with melee when it’s rolling corner, long staff enhancer recommended), you can even entrap place where you stand, so he’ll have surprise when he falls. Default shield is not recommended. With buffed you can tank all his rolls and spikes. If there enemies on arena, he would kill them for you if they in his way. I had once contaminated urchin in ‘thunderstorm’ on “dog park” arena. That idiot killed all puppies and urchins for me. Same goes for thunderstorm weather with urchins on any map-even if there 2-3 mega urchins, they gonna stuck or damage each other while clearing all other enemies. ‘Brute’ enemies are hilarious *smirk*.
Puppy is gripler and more on annoying specter. The thing is-it has small hitbox and mana absorbs health damage for him, so unless you managed to hit it twice in quick succession, it would recover and rinse and repeat… Also constant QTE is annoying as hell+they can do multi QTE if there more of them. Luckily you can jump or dodge in time to let them pass through harmlessly(and I advise you to get bell pepper+salt/pepper foods to ease it). Bombs, Dash Strike and learning where it lands when it fall from walls helps immensely. Their charge limited by walls, so if arena have postament in middle, you can stand on it and they will hit wall harmlessly. Using ‘fireball‘ and ‘cyclone slash‘ is recommended-those arts deal multiple hits, so you can kill them en masse or insta kill even. If you don’t have anything(prologue), just strike with shotgun till you hit it, that will do. REVISION. All i said above^ is true but while i tested shield buff, i figured you can block gripping with shield. Even default one, no need in buff-just set bomb field repeatedly and let them roll to it(while shielding) till one stunned, then kill 1 by 1. Alternative best tactic would be jumping and casting nuke, they can’t jump up so you totally safe from them there. while doing it you can remove other enemies and deal with puppies later. There arena with blocked ceiling so if you can’t do this, use shield+bomb tactic(dodging works too but too much hassle).
Ground Snake is gripler-you need to place bombs under you and just stay motionlessly on same spot(or shield for insurance), snake will dive out of ground, fall you on your butt while devouring bomb charge, the goal is to let it consume bomb, not just explosion near it. After it you just kill the unmoving thing. But that’s intended way to kill it…You can actually ignore bomb and just bait with your body, bail(or shield) before the grip and smack it with shotguns till it’s dead. It has protective coating, but it won’t reduce damage to 0. So just get rid of other enemies while luring snake, and then pay it full and undivided attention. Shield is usefull.
Fox is the one nimble enemy they always have in games-constantly jumps around, have protective orbit and devours your mana supply(plants)+bombards with ‘impressive to look at’ attacks. If you want to beat it, learn few things: you can deflect it’s projectiles with parry, you can entrap mana plants(do so to yet undevoured, they regrow too slowly) and always be on high ground, cause most attacks rain down and inflicts flaming pools. Eventually fox would get stunned by bomb and you can keep hitting it with stick like a pinyatta till candy goes out, yay, you did it! Alternatively you can try to catch it mid air with spells or get buffed with foods against fire+/abnormal status duration(currently only mushrooms), but that’s optional. Melee is not recommended, but you can, if you do Cyclone Slash or Comet Dive. Shield can be good(only for 1 type of projectiles, other would inflict burn, bypass shielding), but parry just better.
Lizard is annoying, but not hard enemy-it can launch itself towards you in claw ball, but danger is not damage-the stunning hits(porifera/urchins yet again) and falling from ledges. It can fan it’s tail to create wind stream which alters physics in it’s way, but harmless(shield negates it). And it likes to grip you with annoying QTE. Try hitting it repeatedly with arrow or nuke-once you hit it, it gonna fall onto spine and be stunned half a sec, in that time you can shot/smack it constantly until it’s dead, stunlocking it. Cyclone slash can help you to hit it with melee in the air and there should not be too much problems to deal with them. Block is the key to survive claw dash attack(walking/jumping out of trajectory too).
Frog is another nimble boss. Movement pattern: it waits till you get closer, backflips AWAY from you while bombarding with ice spikes which stay in place of hit and damage you on touch. Arena have underwater pool in which you can hide from ice(won’t penetrate water surface). Parrying ice is tricky and sometimes non possible, cause frog shoots it as barrage in quick succession so you can deflect most of it but not all. When it’s high, it can lick you and pillar to the ground, dealing huge damage. Tactic is similar to fox-you need to entrap mana plant and stun it, then beat it. You can shield from icicles and licks, might need lettuce dish, unless you stun it fast.
Forest King–raid boss battle type. They like to add these in games too, huh… So this type of enemy is always formidable on first encounter but total pushovers when you learn it’s attack patterns and start to grind it for materials. This one not an exeption. So first things first-you need Burst skill to proceed it. If you don’t have it-look around last corridor before boss and watch for pieces of clothes laying about. That’s the hint from developer how to obtain the thing(you can overbuff yourself with ‘bell pepper+pepper/salt’ combo to solve grip without Burst, cabbage and any fruit dish for hp pool and defense in grip and drink ‘clean water’ so lose arousal meter(one of lewd state lvl 2-3 reduces escape rate)+consumables, but that’s too much hassle). After you gained it, it’s straight boss battle-you hit basket, use burst, avoid pink sparking zones, deflect projectiles back with parry, all it while damaging boss(you can even melee it, bail when it’s “beeping”) Repeat till basket hanging again, burst and you have free time to damage boss without counters. Watch for summoned monsters-deal with them, that’s not hard at this point of game. And there 1 time when he’s moving for other side of screen, just hide in “basement” part. Repeat till it’s dead(aka 3 baskets), ez. In story battle Ixia would help you damage it while boss stunned, but believe me, that’s meager amount of damage compared to Melee Nuke strike. So yeah, one of easiest battles when you catch his whole schmack. I’d say it’s much harder to survive 3 urchins, fool, puppy, 2 porifera/lizards and contaminated mush. That’s recipe for Struggle compared to forest king. P.S. If you cook maxed steak, fried egg, green pepper salad(and carrot salad or ‘long staff’ enhancer, if you can’t control distancing-not needed overwise), you can kill it without dealing with any boss battle things-melee nuke hit for 400 damage with steak, charge speed from egg is perfect for 2 fast hits, you can ignore all possible smoke with green pepper. So whole boss battle is hitting basket, burst, hitting boss 2-3 times, basket, burst, 2-3 hits, other side, 2-3 hits, basket-done. No purple zones, no deflecting seeds, no enemies spawn. Just ‘wack-a-mole’…
Conclusion: we have 1 raid boss-forest king; 2 nimble bosses-fox and frog; 3 brutes(all pushovers)-mega slime, puppet, urchin; 1 support type brute-mega mushroom; 2 max damage output small fry(keep an eye out)-fool and puppet’s machines; my nemesis-urchins; various small fry(varying degrees of annoying)-all others.

Mushrooms, Poriferas, The Fools, Puppets, Urchins don’t have any lewd scene, they ould just hit you with attacks repeatedly when you dead.(P.S. one of puppet’s machines in “harass” category)
Contaminated Urchin, Lizards have only torturous lewds. If you land ONTO cont. urchin from above, Noel would “horse ride” it until she fell from it. Lizards only do violent stretches.
Wall Worms/Maggots(2 variations), Slimes, Contaminated Mushroom, Puppet’s Wooden Horse, Puppies, Ground Snakes, Frog don’t have penetration, they lick/harass Noel. Stil, you can gain “something inside” status with scene of birth later but no visible penetration. (P.S. In “failed to save Ixia” cut scene(which you can see in table of Noel’s room) snake actually penetrates, but that’s exclusive to scene only.)
Contaminated Slime, Contaminated Puppet, Fox, Forest King all have penetration scene
For better view you can disable “blood” and “dirty” amounts in settings-set them to 0 when needed.
