Luminary Protocol is an adult Isekai visual novel with a dark, unfolding narrative. You, along with others, are torn from your reality and thrown into Lumis—a dangerous, magic-filled copy of Earth ruled by enigmatic gods and demons.
The story begins with familiar genre tropes but quickly descends into a desperate, life-or-death struggle. Expect a mature story featuring graphic violence, sex, nudity, adult themes, and substance use.
This is my first game, I have no development experience at all. I picked up renpy back In January and this is the result of many trial and errors.
Explore a Shifting World
The world of Lumis is unstable. Chunks of other worlds are regularly transported there, merging with the landscape. This phenomenon, known as a ‘Convergence,’ brings new creatures, peoples, and technologies, offering unique locations to explore beyond the core world.
Your Path Through the Story
The game follows a linear main story, but your choices matter.
Flavour Choices: Most decisions will change your immediate experience and perspective on events, rather than branching the main plot.
Key Events: Rare, pivotal choices will have a significant and lasting impact on the story’s outcome.
Alignment System: Your actions will align you with Order, Chaos, or Balance. I consider the ‘Balance’ route to be the canon path through the narrative.
A Note on Development & AI
This project would not exist without the use of AI tools for asset creation, as I don’t have the budget to hire artists. This allows me, as an amateur solo developer with no experience making software, to pair my writing with the visuals needed to bring the world of Lumis to life.
The Road Ahead: I’m releasing the game at this point because I have finished building the technical framework that the mission system uses and it has a pretty good amount of content for a first release. Now I can just get on with new content, rather than worrying about trying to work out building UI, menu and mechanics. My goal is to release a new chapter/update every 1-2 months (ideally 1, but I’ve seen too many games over-promise and under-deliver with timescales). I intend to release updates as at least one fully complete “adventure” for one of the factions in the game, similar in size to what happens in Chapter 2. Alongside that, I hope to include some smaller scenes, where you get to spend down time or go on other adventures with specific characters. That’s the idea.. at this stage I’m still working out what is feasible as a part-time developer.

New features:
Updated gallery and video galleries – now dynamically populated based on choices you made and content you saw. These will also tie in to unlocks for high relationship scores later on. Galleries are separated by the chapter the images came in, to make navigation better. Also, you can see all the transition and plot animations that aren’t character specific from the MC’s video gallery. Concept videos and images will also be unlockable via your relationship scores with characters.
Stats diary added – records stats and key events in the order you encounter them so you can go back and remind yourself what you did or check when stats changed and why etc.
Journal – added reading content for those who would like to read a bit more about what happened. The MC records a journal, detailing his thoughts and insights. The content is variable depending on the choices you make and it populates in the order than you encounter it.
Updated the notification screens for new notification types, made them clutter less when multiple notifications are happening at the same time.
Added in a friendship system. This adds as a counter to the romance system, if you don’t want to romance a character you can still build your friendship with them, and friendship points count the same as relationship points when it comes to determining mission outcomes later in the game.
New codex and gallery backgrounds, simplified but also dynamic – changing slightly based on your alignment or your relationship with a character.
New codex entries for 2 new characters.
Redid the maps, made them clearer and better match the geography described in the game.
Updated the Android version to display small side images for dialogue like the main version does. Adjusted text positioning so they don’t overlap. Added in the hide UI button that is off by default for some reason.
Added in distressing content toggle – it won’t show or play (or add to your galleries) images that include sensitive content (mainly the scenes towards the end of Chapter 2).
